Neustadt-Glewe

Neustadt-Glewe

A sub-camp of Ravensbrück established on 1 September 1944 to supply labour for aircraft production near the town of Neustadt-Glewe in north Germany. By the end of 1944, approximately 900 workers, primarily Polish Jews who had been arrested during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, were imprisoned in the camp. Following the death marches of early 1945, the camp population increased to 5000 people, resulting in severe overcrowding, widespread disease and a lack of food. The camp was liberated by the Red Army on 2 May 1945.
