The first Nazi concentration camp opened on 22 March 1933 in the grounds of an abandoned factory. The camp was initially created to hold political prisoners, but soon expanded to hold all Nazi prisoners. Dachau had approximately 100 sub camps. It was liberated on the 29 April 1945.
