Simon remembers pre-war life

As you watch Simon reflect:

  • What was life like for the Jews of the town?
  • How 'normal' was Simon's family life?
  • How did the family get on with their neighbours?

Ruth

Ruth was born in 1935 in Berlin, Germany to a Jewish father and a Christian mother.

In this video Ruth talks about her first memories of family life in Berlin. She remembers playing, being with her aunt and being made to eat a certain type of food.

Watch and reflect; how ‘normal’ would Ruth’s life have been for a young child growing up in the 1930s?

Simon

Reflect

As you watch the videos reflect on the richness of the lives that existed before the Nazis came to power.

Then, as you use The Holocaust Explained, reflect on what was lost, but also what has been left behind.
